We can use education to change the world by teaching ourselves how to become self reliant in the digital age.

In this blog we’ll be looking at

  1. Why we waste our initial education
  2. How the process of education is changing
  3. What we can do with our new education and become self reliant in the digital age

Nelson Mandela once said

“Education is the most powerful tool you can use, to change the world”

Just think about that for a minute…..

Why we waste our initial education.

We are educated at school and college and University and what do we do with that education?  We go get a bloody job!  All that knowledge and you end up working 9-5.  All our initial education does, is to teach us to conform to society, to fit in.  You work you get paid and then you die.

Think about it this way, from an early age we are educated and conditioned to get a job, to earn some money, to enable us to buy clothes and stuff.  Then we borrow eye watering sums of money (a mortgage) to hopefully enable us buy a house to settle down and raise a family.  We then become trapped in the viscous circle of working harder or longer hours, learning how to get a promotion, all just to keep getting a paycheck that will never make us really financially secure, because at any moment the job could just go, finish.  Boom, company goes bust, or change of management takes the company in a different direction and your left, literally in some cases, holding the baby.  Neck high in debt and stressed out because your monthly income just came to a halt and what do you do?  You try to get another job… and guess what,  you’re back in the same cycle all over again.

Now however, the process of education is changing.

The pace of change in the world is getting faster and faster and that’s being driven by technology and one of the great benefits of this change is access to the internet.  Probably in my mind the single biggest advancement was high speed internet access and that has allowed us to get access to so much information not previously available and allowed us to consume that information is many different ways.  This makes the process of us educating ourselves, much easier and in ways that we retain information much more readily.

Look at it this way, less than 10 years ago we predominantly used our mobile or cell phones to, guess what?  Make and receive phone calls, ok we my have sent to odd text or sms.  The screens were really tiny and it was as if a race was on, as to who could make the smallest phone. Then, we have a great change and technological breakthrough that made it possible to do more with our phone.  Bigger screens, colour, access to the internet, we could send and receive emails and better still use Aps!  One of the keys to social media taking off was the ability to access it anytime and almost anywhere.  Now YouTube and Facebook say the majority of their platform views are on mobile devices and 80% of that by 2019 will be video.  In this day and age we learn not just by reading but by watching, being shown how to do things online.   It’s this ability to access education in a different way that leads us on to…….

What we can do with our new education?

Well, the sky’s the limit.   I truly believe that anything is achievable if you’re prepared to educate yourself and put in the work needed to apply what you learn.  We all have the ability to teach ourselves how to become self reliant in the digital age.

To become self reliant you need to stop relying on trading your time for money in a job.  You will always be limiting your earning potential because there is only ever 24 hours in a day.   We need to trade goods or add value somewhere and in the digital age that, has never been more possible.  It’s easy to shop online, more and more people shop online everyday and they buy everyday things.  Do you think we can learn how to set up an online shop?  If someone showed you, the exact steps to take.  How to build a website, how to add products and accept payments.  Where to find products to sell, How to know what products are selling and what people want to buy.  Do you think you could follow that, replicate it.  Of course you could.  If someone showed you how to sell on Amazon as an affiliate or even as a drop shipper?  What  if someone showed you the exact process for running successful advertising campaigns on YouTube, do you think you could do it too?  If you were shown the exact steps some used to do it themselves?  Yes of course you could and that is how you can give yourself more time, so that you can change the world, well, your world at least

So, in this blog we have looked at why we waste our education by blindly conforming to society, settling for just getting by on a job.  Then we looked at how the process of education is changing and how we access it via mobile platforms and through video, and finally we discussed what we can do with our new education and looked at just a couple of the many opportunities available to allow us to generate an income, which wasn’t a salary, which would allow you more time freedom than you might have right now.  So now you know how we can use education to change the world by teaching ourselves how to become self reliant in the digital age.
